Tim Tebow was an American football quarterback who played college football for the Florida Gators. At Florida he won two BCS National Championships and a Heisman trophy, the award given to the best college football player of the year. He was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Many criticized his throwing motion and doubted his ability to play the quarterback position. Tebow would prove them wrong. After a 1-3 start, Tebow replaced Kyle Orton as the Broncos starting quarterback. In his second game, Tebow led the Broncos from behind 15-0 in the fourth quarter against the Miami Dolphins. Denver went on to win 18-15 in overtime. Tim Tebow led the Broncos to an 8-8 record and a playoff berth. In the playoffs Tebow led the Broncos to an overtime win against the Steelers 29-23. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots ended the Broncos season defeating Denver 45-10. That would be the last game Tebow played for the Broncos. The Denver Broncos signed free agent quarterback Peyton Manning and traded Tebow to the New York Jets. Tim Tebow would only start two games as a Jet. He played mostly in the wildcat and on special teams. Tebow was released from the Jets following the season. Tebow played for the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles in preseason. Tebow played well and put up impressive numbers. However, He was cut by both teams. Chip Kelly, the Eagles coach at the time, said that Tebow “was not good enough” to be the third string quarterback. The Eagles would end up missing the playoffs that year and Chip Kelly was fired before the end of the year. Chip Kelly was also fired the this year from the 49ers as he led them to there worst season ever in franchise history. The only year that Tim Tebow was given a chance to play, he won seven out of the twelve games he played and won a playoff game.
In August of last year, Tebow tried at for the MLB and was signed to a minor league contract to the New York Mets. The Mets placed Tebow in the Arizona Fall League. After a slow start in the Arizona Fall League, Tebow started to pick up the pace. Though he ended the season with only a 0.198 batting average, he showed significant improvement in the last few games. Last week, Tebow hit nine home runs in his first batting practice with the Mets minor league team.
On Wednesday, Tebow will be given a chance to prove himself. Several Mets players are going to the World Baseball Classic. The Mets have added Tebow to their Major League roster to fill one of the spots left open. Tebow will play on Wednesday as a designated hitter for the Mets in a Spring Training game against the Red Sox. The game will be nationally televised on the MLB Network. This is Tim Tebow’s big chance to once again prove his critics wrong.
