Penguins Lose to Capitals. Why the Refs Ruined the Game.

I’m mad and I have every right to be. I’m a Penguins fan and I sat through that miserable, horrible, nothing but a boring fight game. The referees messed up the end of the game. Here’s why:

Note: The referees handle the last 2 fights amazingly, if you’re a Capitals fan.

The game was 3-1 Capitals and the Penguins were empty net with a little over 2 minutes to go. Then, the Penguins forward, Patrick Hornquist slashed a Capitals player and a fight broke out (again). However, only Patrick Hornquist was sent to the box even though the player who was slashed started the fight. The Capitals had a power play and the Penguins wouldn’t be able to go empty net until they could get the puck out of their zone. Even then, it would still be 5-on-5, because of the penalty. As if that were bad enough, with 1 minute to go their was another fight and Evgeni Malkin, the Penguins leading scorer, was the only player to be sent to the box. Being that the score was 3-1 with 1 minute to go and the Capitals had a 5-on-3 power play, the game was basically over.

The Capitals played a great game, as usual, and I’m not denying that. I’m just saying that the Capitals were also in the fight, and that for only calling penalties only on the Penguins should definitely get the referees fired.

Anyway, the Penguins lost the game and the Capitals clinched the division. They will likely meet in the playoffs.
