Can anyone stop the Golden State Warriors? The answer is yes. The Warriors were defeated by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals after they led the Cavaliers 3-1 in the series. However, the Cavaliers were defeated this NBA Finals 4-1 by the Warriors. Still, the Warriors are not completely invincible. In fact, I do not think that they will make it to the Finals next year due to the continuous build up of “Super Teams.” When the Warriors added Durant to their already powerful lineup, they were known as a “Super Team.” Now, more teams are attempting to copy the Warriors and build their own “Super Teams.” However, all the big players seem to be joining teams in the Western Conference, the Warriors’ conference. Therefore, it will be harder for Golden State to go to the Finals again this year.
The New Orleans Pelicans, who recently added Rajon Rondo to their team, may have the best chance to stop the Warriors. The Pelicans, who have not been a great team lately, have made the right steps toward a possible championship run in 2018. They already had Anthony Davis, who is arguably THE best player in the league. Since adding Demarcus Cousins in a trade with the Kings, the Pelicans have shown significant improvement. Before the addition of Cousins, the Pelicans seemed to be very powerful against the Warriors and other good teams. Although, they lost almost every time they played the Warriors, Golden State never could quite smash the Pelicans like the could to other teams. Also, without Anthony Davis, the Pelicans beat the then defending champions, the Cavaliers, in a regular season game last year. They won largely due to Jrue Holiday, who the Pelicans just signed to a five year deal. With Davis, Cousins, Holiday, and now Rondo, I think that the Pelicans can take down any team in the league, including the Warriors.
